Just over four years ago, Francois van Coke stepped out of the confines of Fokofpolisiekar and Van Coke Cartel for the first time with his self-titled solo album. The first single was a duet with former The Voice SA Coach Karen Zoid titled ‘Toe Vind Ek Jou’ – now the video for that track has passed 8 million views on YouTube!
The rock ballad made headlines at the time as it hit the top of the iTunes chart at the same time as the album, the first time this had been achieved by an Afrikaans muso.
About the milestone, Francois says, “I’m super-stoked that people are still listening to ‘Toe Vind Ek Jou’ four years later. That song truly changed my life and set my solo career. I am also thankful that I could write and record that song with my friend, Karen Zoid. And I am still very much in love with the subject matter of the tune, my wife, Lauren.”
