Gregory Czarnecki

Gregory Czarnecki, head chef at The Restaurant at Waterkloof, won the coveted Chef of the Year award from Eat Out in 2016, and The Restaurant at Waterkloof was named the number one at the 2018 Eat Out Mercedes-Benz Restaurant Awards. Greg also served as a mentor for the prestigious S. Pellegrino Young Chef competition in Africa and the Middle East.

Greg’s love for food started at a young age. Born in France, he was a mere fifteen days old when he took his first trip, moving to Sweden with his parents, only to move again a few months later in what would become the first of many trips to South Africa.

Due to the nature of his father’s work Czarnecki has lived in nineteen countries. This and his mother’s traditional French cooking is where his vast knowledge and passion for food originated from.

Fuelled with a wealth of experience garnered in some of the finest Michelin star restaurants in France, Gregory’s cooking style remains loyal to his French roots and the lessons learnt from his mentor, 3-star Michelin chef Alain Senderens.

Greg's international culinary career saw him working exclusively in the Parisian kitchens of Michelin star-rated restaurants, including the 2-star restaurant Senderens; the 3-star Relais & Châteaux restaurant Lucas Carton, and the Michelin star Pergolèse. Other highlights include the opening, recipe design, and menu conceptualisation for leading restaurants in Brussels, Genève, and Lyon.
