Good Morning Mr. Antionio Fabiao, Fabitrade/Fabicaca

And Mrs. Isabelle Fabiao,  Fabicaca and Casa Fabiao

Again, my name is Sasha Wein and I am trying to contact you regarding an interview. I have tried so far, three times on the emails supplied on your website and business cards – that have been working previously.

I am currently researching a story on the illegal firearms used by rhino poachers. Evidence suggests that guns imported and sold by Fabitrade/ Fabicaca / Casa Fabiao to Investcon Ltd. (among other clients) were used in rhino poaching related crimes in South Africa and Mozambique.

I would like to request you respond to the following questions:

1.   Evidence suggests that your company is part of an illegal firearms supply chain to poachers involved in wildlife crime both in Mozambique and South Africa. What is your response?

2.   After Ms. Kathi Lynn Austin, an American firearms trafficking expert, brought this to your attention in 2015, what measures were taken to address this problem?

3.   Is it common practice and in accordance with Mozambique law to sell an excess of 50 guns to a single company, such as Investon Ltd., as Fabicaca / Casa Fabiao has done? Please explain.

4.   Do you have in your possession all of the licenses issued to Investon Ltd. by the Ministry of Interior for the purchases of all the firearms bought by Investcon Ltd.? Can you please provide these licenses as proof?

5.   Does Fabicaca / Casa Fabiao feel compelled to sell hunting rifles on the instruction of the Ministry of Interior or any government official in order to continue operating other businesses and trades in Mozambique? Please explain.

6.   Has Fabicaca / Casa Fabiao ever reported that any of its stock of firearms or those sold to Investcon Ltd. have been stolen?

7.   What is Fabicaca/ Casa Fabiao’s business relation to Fabitrade in Portugal? Has Casa Fabiao/ Fabicaca ever imported CZUB or CZ-USA firearms from Portugal into Mozambique?

8.   What if any firearms imported into Mozambique via Casa Fabiao/ Fabicasa are CZ-USA models and inventory?

9.   Has Fabitrade been warned by CZ regarding it’s re-exportation of guns to Mozambique?

10.   Does Fabitrade know that this is against the law? Your response.

The latest we can gain a response is by 5pm, June 4th, 2018. In order to incorporate your answers into the story. This is our third attempt to gain a response.

Kind regards,

Sasha Schwendenwein

Dear Ms Sasha Schwendenwein,

We already gave all information we have to Ms Kathi.

We are a respectable company and Casa Fabiao Lda only sold and sell to licensed people or company’s , so to sell one gun or ammunition the buyer must present the license issued by the police.

As we have told several times to Ms Kathi she must get all information with the Ministerio of Interior not with us , who issue the licenses is the Police .

Best regards
Antonio Fabião
