M-Net has fantastic news for dating show fanatics and the country’s obsessed #BachelorNation. After the channel’s two massively successful seasons of The Bachelor South Africa, a leading lady will now take centre stage.

The local version of the global franchise spin-off series, The Bachelorette South Africa, is already in pre-production and the identity of the country’s "rose like no other" will be revealed later this week.

“Choosing our first Bachelorette was a daunting task,” says M-Net’s Head of Publicity, Lani Lombard. “Even though it’s not a hard-and-fast rule, it is customary for the spin-off programme to pick a lady from previous Bachelor seasons.

“In this regard,  we’re spoilt for choice. Both seasons featured many stunning ladies who could easily step into this coveted role and we know how fans fervently rooted for their favourites on social media. Behind the scenes, we were also contacted by other potential Bachelorettes with strong credentials, but who did not appear on the show,”.

While South Africa is waiting for M-Net and production company Rapid Blue to reveal its first Bachelorette, single guys should get ready to put their names forward if they wish to become part of the love journey with this vivacious woman. Entries for the show will open immediately after her name is disclosed.

Since 2003, when the first US season of The Bachelorette was launched, the popular gender-reversed spin-off of The Bachelor has been produced in numerous countries, including Australia, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Finland, and India. The recent first season in New Zealand also had tongues wagging. Instead of having one Bachelorette, the Kiwis picked two!

M-Net is planning to have The Bachelorette season 1 on its schedule early next year, with filming taking place as soon as possible in 2020.
