With roles in The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and Jason Bourne Swedish actress Alicia Vikander has already cut her action-movie teeth. But landing the role of Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider reboot means she’s no longer playing second action fiddle.

On Wednesday 14 March we’ll get to watch Vikander swim, fight, climb, raid tombs and much more, during an exclusive screening of Tomb Raider at #MMNightOut. If you’re joining us – or eagerly awaiting the movie's release on Friday – check out a few fantastic facts about this awesome action heroine.

  1. Angelina Jolie was the first actress to portray Lara Croft on film.
  2. Daisy Ridley, Emilia Clarke, Saoirse Ronan, and Kristen Stewart were all offered the part for the 2018 reboot.
  3. Both Jolie and Vikander won the role of Croft soon after winning Best Supporting Actress Oscars.
  4. Jon Voight, Jolie’s father, plays Lara’s father in the 2001 film. In the 2018 reboot, he’s played by Dominic West.
  5. The 2018 film is inspired by the 2013 game developed by Crystal Dynamics.
  6. The first game was released in 1996.
  7. In the games, Lara Croft was almost a male character.
  8. Principal photography for the 2018 film took place in England and South Africa.
  9. The 2018 movie is something of an origin tale.
  10. Vikander’s training for the role of Croft included weight training, MMA fighting, climbing, archery, and swimming.
