29-year-old Jeanne-Mari Engelbrecht from Strand has been singing since her school days, when she persuaded her parents to let her transfer from Aliwal North High to board at Burgersdorp High School because they had musicals there! At the university of the NorthWest at Potchefstroom she was a member of the very last group ever of Potch’s famous Alabama Student Company musical revue group, which disbanded in 2006. But these days she mostly sings with her little students at Locherhof Primary in Strand, where she teaches Grade 4 English – until her brave and blistering performance of the Whitney Houston classic “I Will Always Love You” secured her a place on #TeamBobby.
