Song Suggestions For The Talent!

News
13 June 2017
You’ve had many suggestions on social media about which artists and songs our singers should be covering, so here are our thoughts.
Top7

#TeamBobby:

Caroline-Grace

#TeamBobby’s resident beauty (after Bobby himself, of course!) has kept things pretty contemporary, and we’d love to hear her tackling a retro torch song like Berlin’s “Take My Breath Away”. But if she wants to keep it modern, why not funk it up with something from The Voice SA fans GoodLuck (“Thinking About You” is massive)? Or maybe Bobby can convince her to go Afrikaans - perhaps even something by his sister Karlien?

Josh

There’s probably nothing Josh couldn’t do. But after the news dropped yesterday that Bryan Adams is touring SA in December, we couldn’t help but wonder how Josh might spin one of his hits – the mighty “(Everything I Do) I Do It For You”, or the more upbeat “Summer Of 69”? Something like Stacey Norman’s favourite song, Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing”, is right in his hitting zone too – after all, Xanilee Hammond performed it for her Blind Audition in season 1. And landed on – you guessed it - #TeamBobby.

TeamKahn:

Craig

With his amazing range and dramatic sensibilities – on show in the latest live show, where he belted Harry Styles out of the arena – we think Craig would nail Prince’s anthemic “Purple Rain”, or a tune by one of the singers Kahn and others keep comparing him to: John Legend (how about “All Of Me”?) and Freddie Mercury. Should he follow in Samantha’s footsteps and perform a Queen number, like “Another One Bites The Dust”, which is upbeat and would still allow him to show off his range?

Fatman

Bela Bela’s brilliant crooner seemingly took your tips and performed Meat Loaf in the third live show – perhaps he should continue peeking at the work of that track’s producer, Jim Steinman, who also helmed hits for Bonnie Tyler (“Total Eclipse Of The Heart”) and Air Supply (“Making Love Out Of Nothing At All”). (Considering their age, they should be in his wheelhouse too!) Given his penchant for huge Afrikaans numbers, maybe the controversial Bok van Blerk smash, “De La Rey”?

#TeamKaren:

PJ

PJ is gaining in confidence and, as we witnessed a couple of weeks back when he performed Temper Trap, he can certainly handle an upbeat number. Would he be able to handle Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop The Feeling”? We think so. And we reckon he’d also nail recent live show guest Connell Cruise’s latest, “All Day”. But, if he’s staying in classic rock/torch song mode, why not a classic U2 number…

Samantha

Equal parts sultry and sass, Samantha may be the most versatile voice we have on the show. She’s also super stylish – check the extravagant get-up she wore in the most recent live show. An obvious go-to then would be Lady Gaga - perhaps her latest, “The Cure”. She showed off her rock ‘n’ roll smarts with her latest performance, a Queen cover, and we reckon she’d shine doing this Alanis Morissette classic.

TeamLira:

Luke

It’s no secret that Luke and season 1 winner Richard Stirton are mates, and we reckon he could do “What Tears Me The Most” in his sleep. Alternatively, why not runner-up Gavin Edwards, who lit of our live show with his new song “Sparks”? We’d also love to hear him tear up something as dynamic as “Use Me” by another #TheVoiceSA guest, Jesse Clegg.

What do you think of our selections? If you have other suggestions, drop them on our social media accounts, and (witness Fatman), you never know…
