See how extraordinary characters step onto The Voice SA stage this week.

This week’s edition of The Voice South Africa is packed with delightful surprises – not only for the audience at home, but also for show coaches Kahn Morbee, Karen Zoid, Lira and Bobby van Jaarsveld.

Remember how Bobby burst into tears during the previous season’s Blind Auditions after turning his chair around for the beautiful voice of blind singer Vernon Barnard? Or how amazed the coaches were just last week when discovering that cool kid Freddy Lalendle’s gruff voice did not belong to a Tom Waits look-alike? Or that the person that none of them turned for was in fact a seasoned performer?

“The most exciting part about this popular singing contest’s first round of auditions is that the coaches have no idea who the person behind the voice is,” says M-Net’s Head of Publicity, Lani Lombard. “As the backs of their chairs are turned away from the stage, they make all their decisions based on what they hear only, and, without letting the cat completely out of the bag, you can rest assured that the coaches are going to be gobsmacked this week!”

Among the highly talented singers who will belt it out to get into the next round of the competition this week are a nerdy chemical engineer, a beautician who looks as if she has stepped out of a vintage fashion magazine and moms with attitude who are determined to conquer the music world. Then there’s also a phenomenal character whose appetite is just as big as his musical dreams…

Be sure you’re tuned into M-Net 101 on Sunday night at 17:30 to see which of these vocalists the coaches will scoop up for their teams and find out who the performer is who the coaches believe already belongs on the international stage. Who knows, this might just be the week with a record-number of four-turns!

The Voice SA Season 2, sponsored by Dial Direct, is broadcast on M-Net Channel 101 every Sunday, and is repeated every Monday at 18:00 on M-Net City Channel 115.
