His debut hit “Not Just Friends” took South African radio stations by storm and garnered him three SAMA nominations. He has since topped the South African charts with 10 hit radio singles. The release of his highly anticipated EP “Into the Wild” introduced him to the international music scene and created a worldwide social media buzz.
Connell’s unique sound, coupled with his determination and relentless work ethic, grabbed the attention of none other than music industry titan, L.A. Reid. Connell’s deal with Island Records in New York City is considered the biggest and most significant record deal in South African music history.
Connell has toured across the United States with the fan-favorite band SafetySuit, has performed to thousands from the stages of festivals such as Bonnaroo and Firefly, and has shared the stage with a vast array of musical legends, such as Harry Bellefonte, Adam Lambert, the Fray, and the American Authors.
Connell’s skill as a songwriter has earned him the opportunity to collaborate with a long list of international hit-makers; Ido Zmishlany, Scott Harris, Daniel Kyriakides, John Ryan, and Teddy Geiger to name but a few. Connell has enjoyed tremendous success as a songwriter; with his prolific body of work spanning three albums, two EPs and a roll call of co-written singles released by fellow artists.
American audiences will have heard Connell’s latest US release “Endless Possibilities” in the recent Quaker Oats commercials airing across the nation just as South African fans embraced the release of Connell Cruise’s sophomore album release, “Barely Breathing,” sending it straight to No. 1 on the iTunes album charts.
Currently based in New York City, Connell continues to proudly introduce his South African sound to the world.
