  • What is Spellbound?

 

Spellbound is M-Net 101’s new family-friendly game show for viewers of all ages, which will be broadcast from 20 November 2016.

  • How does the show work?

Spellbound tests contestants’ spelling and grammar skills in a fun and interactive way. Contestants play against each other for a cash prize.  

  • Who can enter the show?

The show is divided into three different age categories. There will be one round for primary school learners between the ages of 10 and 13; one round for high school learners between the ages of 14 and 18; and one round for adults over the age of 18.

  • Can I enter the show if I’ve been a contestant on other game shows?

Yes, you may enter Spellbound if you have been on other game shows in the past.

  • Can I enter the show if I’ve been a contestant on Op Die Spel?

Yes, you may enter Spellbound if you’ve been a contestant on Op Die Spel, but remember that Spellbound will test your spelling and grammar in English only.

  • Do I have to be South African to enter the show?

South African citizens or permanent residents may enter the show. For contestants under the age of 18, we are looking for primary school and high school learners who are currently attending schools in South Africa.

  • Who is producing the show?

Production company Homebrew Films is producing the series for M-Net.

  • How do I enter?

You need to fill out an entry form and do an online spelling test. Head to www.mnet.tv/spellbound to enter.

  • When do entries close?

Entries close on Sunday, 31 October 2016.

  • Will I be notified that my entry has been received? 

Yes. Once you register online, you will receive an e-mail confirming your registration with a unique password too.

If you perform well in your online entry spelling test, you will make it to the next audition round when the producers of the series contact you telephonically. If you are not contacted by 31 October, your application has been unsuccessful.

  • Will unsuccessful candidates also be notified?

Unsuccessful candidates will not be notified. If you haven’t heard from us by 31 October, your application has not been successful.

  • Is there an age limit to who can enter?

We are looking for primary school learners between the ages of 10 and 13; high school learners between the ages of 14 and 17, and adults over the age of 18. No one under the age of 10 may enter the series, and all children under 18 must have the permission of their legal guardians to take part in the show.  

  • Who determines the selection of the contestants on the show?

The contestants are selected by the producers in conjunction with M-Net. The selection is based on how well they perform on their online spelling test, as well as the outcomes of further audition phases thereafter.

  • What kind of contestants is the show looking for?

We are looking for anyone who loves the challenge of spelling difficult (English) words correctly, as well as anyone who knows their (English) grammar rules exceptionally well. If you love to watch, or have ever taken part in a spelling bee, this show is for you.  

  • What is the prize?

There will be cash prizes for all contestants taking part in the show. For the primary and high school learners, there may also be cash prizes for your schools!

  • When does filming start?

 Filming for the series will start in October 2016.

  • When will the show be on air?

The show will be broadcast on M-Net from 20 November, 2016, once a week on Sunday nights at 17:30.

  • How long are the episodes?

Each episode will be 30 minutes long.

  • Will there be a presenter / quiz master on Spellbound?

There will be two presenters on the show. Their names will be announced at a later stage.
