In Keeping Up with the Joneses, a new comedy helmed by Superbad director Greg Mottola, Mad Men star Jon Hamm and Wonder Woman Gal Gadot play the Joneses, a not-exactly-ordinary couple. Living next door to the Gaffneys (played by Zach Galifianakis and Isla Fisher) it’s not long before the latter couple figures out that the Joneses are not perfect…they’re spies.

These Joneses are hardly the first in cinematic history, and with that in mind we take a look at a few famous characters that share their name.

Indiana Jones

Unquestionably the most famous of the lot is Indy, a character we first met in 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark. Named after George Lucas’ dog, the character was first, and most famously, played by Harrison Ford. The actor has portrayed him in four films, with a fifth one currently in the works. In the third feature film, The Last Crusade, Indy briefly appeared as a teenager, played by River Phoenix. In the television series the character is depicted at different stages of life and is played variously by Corey Carrier, Sean Patrick Flanery, Harrison Ford and George Hall.

Dr. Christmas Jones

With a name like that, you know people are going to make lots of bad jokes. That’s exactly what happens to this Bond girl, played by Denise Richards, in the 19th Bond film, The World is Not Enough.

Davy Jones

The villainous captain of the Flying Dutchman made his debut in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise with the second film, Dead Man’s Chest. Portrayed by the incomparable Bill Nighy, he returned to the role for the third film, At World’s End.

Jessica Jones

Veering away from the movies, we have television’s superhero Jessica Jones. A Marvel character played by Krysten Ritter, Jones is a superhero turned detective in New York City. Fans are holding out that she’ll get her own film. As part of the Marvel cinematic universe we’re guaranteed to see her pop up in other Marvel shows, if not the films; the first definite being The Defenders, which will see her team up with Iron Fist, The Punisher, Luke Cage and Daredevil.
