The new year promises to be full of great television, with Game of Thrones and Shameless starting their sixth seasons; rock ‘n’ roll drama Vinyl premiering its first season, and Neil Gaiman’s work coming to the screen in the form of Lucifer. With their edgy content it goes without saying that you’ll be watching these series on M-Net Edge, many of them Express from the U.S.

Another freshly-minted show that’s got everyone's lips flapping in anticipation of its premiere, is Billions. As we’ve come to expect from television these days, there are big names involved. Cast as blue-collar billionaire Bobby Axelrod, and U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhoades, are Damian Lewis and Paul Giamatti.

Homeland fans will be familiar with London-born actor Lewis, who shot to fame and acclaim for his role as Nicholas Brody on the award-winning show. Character actor Paul Giamatti has an impressive film resume, but stands out most often for his lauded role in Sideways, as well as his Oscar nominated turn in Cinderella Man.

In Billions the two great actors tackle complex characters mired in the intricate world of finance and politics, and we can’t wait to see their performances. Showtime reveals more about the charaters below. Get to know them better, and tune into Billions Season 1 Express from the U.S. on Tuesday 19 January at 02:00 on M-Net Edge, and in prime time at 21:00.

CHUCK RHOADES

Brilliant and brash, U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhoades is leading the fight against financial corruption in America. As the most powerful prosecutor in the country, he's won 81 insider trading cases – and lost zero. But when criminal evidence turns up against wunderkind billionaire Bobby Axelrod, Chuck recognises that he needs to proceed judiciously. Is his excess of caution due to his professionalism, or the fact that his wife works for Axelrod?

BOBBY AXELROD

A self-made Wall Street billionaire with one of the most successful hedge funds in the business, Bobby Axelrod enjoys all the trappings of his success: mansions, a private jet, a helicopter, and a personal chef. But he also doesn't forget his humble roots, or the fact that he survived 9/11 by a fluke. Although Axe's intentions are good, the temptations of greed and power are enormous and the lines between right and wrong in high finance are blurry at best. He is a shrewd enough player to never reveal his full hand to anybody.
