This monthโs silver screening, with M-Net Movies Premiere and Ster-Kinekor, is the highly-anticipated comic book adaptation Deadpool, starring Ryan Reynolds in the title role.
If youโre attending the exclusive pre-screening with us on 11 February, here are 10 things about Deadpool you have to know before the lights go down, and the movie starts.
- Itโs Ryan Reynoldโs fifth comic book adaptation. His previous superhero/antihero outings are Blade: Trinity, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Green Lantern, and R.I. P.D.
- This is the second time Reynolds has played the character of Deadpool/Wade Wilson. His first appearance as the character was in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
- Why was Ryan Reynolds cast in the role? Probably because the comic book names him as the perfect actor to play him in a movie.
- Letโs not forget the rest of the cast. Actors to look out for include former mixed martial artist Gina Carano as Angel Dust, newbie Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead (yes, thatโs her name), and Ed Skrein, the first Daario Naharis in Game of Thrones, as Ajax. And look out for the practically mandatory cameo from Stan Lee.
- Deadpool marks Tim Millerโs feature directorial debut. His experience in the Marvel cinematic universe includes work as a second unit director on Thor: The Dark World.
- BUT: even though Deadpool is a Marvel character, he wonโt form part of the Marvel cinematic universe.
- He does, however, form part of the X-Men universe. Does that mean an appearance from Hugh Jackmanโs Wolverine? We donโt know for sure, but we definitely hope so!
- There are post-credit scenes, so make sure you stay until the end.
- The fourth wall is broken, which means plenty of cheeky asides to theย audience.
- Itโs going to be AWESOME!
If you didnโt win tickets this time round, donโt despair! Deadpoolโs nationwide release is the next day, on 12 February; and the next silver screening with Ster-Kinekor and M-Net Movies is coming soon.
